Two agencies offer fare capping to help riders earn free rides. Frequent riders get the greatest benefit.
How Fare Capping Works
- Load Stored Value (cash) on a TAP card and pay per ride. The amount of fare you pay for your rides during a certain period of time is capped once you reach the maximum fare amount ("cap") for that period. When you reach the cap for a 1-day and 7-day period, your rides for the remainder of that period are FREE!
- A TAP card is required to participate in fare capping. Cash paying customers will not earn free rides. Each agency's rules for free transfers apply.
- Only paid rides are credited toward your 1-Day and 7-Day fare cap. Transfers do not count toward the fare cap.
- When you pay with a TAP card on a bus or train, the validator will show either the fare amount deducted or a free ride.
- Fare capping is only available for rides on Metro and Santa Clarita Transit. Paid rides on other TAP transit systems will not count toward your fare cap.
